Leadership San Juan Islands is proud to announce the
8th year of the Leadership San Juan Islands.
LSJI
will be following a similar timetable as last year: the
deadline for applications in early-November. Applicants will
be informed of acceptance late November and short preview
meeting is being planned prior to the Retreat in late
January. Three Challenge Days, with three Retreats, and hopefully another nautical adventure will bring the program to Graduation at the end of May, 2012.
Tuition of $625.
All in all LSJI
team is seamlessly transitioning from 2011 to 2012 with a committed group of alumni and others to make this
8th year the best that can be offered and we urge all interested islanders to give a call, come to the open houses that will be scheduled in September and to consider joining this powerful educational opportunity.
This year Leadership San Juan Islands is thrilled to introduce Jim Hooper and Liz Illig - two highly skilled facilitators with loads of Community Leadership experience - to be Program Co-Coordinators.
Jim Hooper is an independent consultant with a passion for helping people develop deeper understandings of other perspectives and opinions in order to improve the results of working together. He retired from Hewlett-Packard after a 32 year career in a variety of management positions, including as the quality manager for HP's North America field services organization. He and his wife have been invested in the islands for 8 years and moved here full time 3 years ago. While he continues his consulting practice, he is an active volunteer. He is on the board of his homeowners association, on the board of the local Barbershop Harmony Society chapter, and is the board president of the San Juan County Economic Development Council. He earned his master's degree in industrial engineering from Stanford University and is a graduate of Leadership San Juan Islands.
Liz Illg has over 35 years of experience working in nonprofits and on their boards and has facilitated many planning processes with community groups and for local government. After a career in social services in Alaska and Seattle she moved permanently to San Juan Island in 1995 and opened a small business in Friday Harbor and served on the Town Council. She earned her master's degree in social work at the University of Washington and is a graduate of Leadership San Juan Islands. Currently she and her partner have a business consulting firm for nonprofits called Nonprofits Unlimited and she coordinates the Scenic Byway projects for the San Juan Islands Visitors Bureau.
